Brooks Post Office was established on May 13th.,1881. Brooks was located on the line between Ashland Township and Brooks Township on the railroad between Grant and Newaygo.
You can find Brooks on the 1911 railroad map in the Michigan Manual. When the county was first established there were only two townships. The west half of the county was Brooks Township, named after John A. Brooks, the east half was Newaygo Township. By 1880, Brooks Township had been reduced in size to what is now the east half of Garfield Township.
The office was established with Lucius E. Mills as Postmaster and was discontinued on March 3, 1890 with Richard Peacock as Postmaster. They were the only two Postmasters of this office. When the office closed the mail went to Newaygo.
