White Cloud Eagle,
January 10, 1907

The subject of this article, Mr. Andrew G. Clark, commonly known as A. G. was born March 25, 1839, in the township of Palmira, Wayne County, New York. At the age of 15 he with his parents moved to Michigan settling in Comstock Township, Kalamazoo County. Until the spring of 1859 he remained at home and worked on his father's farm, and at that time was married to Miss Eliza J. Ackerman. By that union they were the parent's of one daughter, Frankie M. Clark, who married Walter Gibbs.

Mr. Clark lost his first wife in 1869 and was married again to Clara M. Bracy, in 1870 and by that union one son, Harry B. Clark, who now resides in White Cloud, Newaygo County, Mich. Harry was born in Nov., 1872 and in Dec. the same year Andrew again lost his wife. At this time Mr. Clark was living at Augusta, Mich. In 1873 he moved to Alleyton, Newaygo County, Mich. where he engaged in the planing mill business with Edwin C. Bracy where they did a prosperous business until the mill was destroyed by fire in June, 1881. Mr. Clark, however, had come to White Cloud and engaged in the drug business in Dec. of 1879. On March 4, 1881 his store was destroyed by fire. While the coals of that fire were yet hot, Mr. Clark purchased the lumber for the erection of a new store, the one which he now occupies.

Mr. Clark again married on Nov. 17, 1892 to Mrs. Minnie C. Patterson, and he and his amiable wife lived at their present residence on west Wilcox Avenue, since their marriage.

Mr. Clark has always been a respected and honored citizen having been elected president of the village so many times that he declined to try to tell, has been a member of the school board for a number of years, was treasurer of the village and at present is president of the Business Men's Association.

He was a member of the school board when the district was organized and remained there until some year after the school house of which the village is so proud, was built. He organized the first church Society in White Cloud, the Congregation Church.

Mr. Clark has always been a very temperate man, never contracting any of the useless habits that the sterner sex is heir to and is a man loved and respected by all who know him.
